Three Tablet Display Comparisons

Displays are vital to the success of tablets and displaymate does a great job comparing the displays of the Apple iPad 2, ASUS transformer, and Motorola Xoom. Which tablets have the best displays?

For the current set of Tablets the iPad is the clear winner in every category, which is somewhat surprising considering it was the first Tablet to launch and the one that later competitors knew they had to beat – but as of yet none have succeeded.

The Motorola Xoom continues to be beat up by reviewers. The company is having trouble with the MicroSD and now display comparisons put it at dead last – far behind the competitors.

If you were the CEO of Motorola, what would you do to stop the embarrassment?

Amazon to launch tablet in August – September

Logos of Amazon and Androidtabletcrunch.com

Digitimes is a great source for OEM information. The site is also wonderful because the people behind the site work hard to dig into news about some great future products. For example, Amazon is going to enter into the tablet market. Yes, Amazon.

Even though a price or even OS is not in the story, Amazon is estimating “global sales of four million units for 2011.” — Now that’s pretty powerful sales.

According to the source:

“Amazon will provide streaming movie services for users of its tablet PCs”

Put this story together with the June 15 PC Magazine story and the earlier May 3 story from Digitimes -  and we still have very little specifications:

I suspect we’ll see some images start leaking just before launch.

Vizio Tablet Set For July Launch

(PRNewsFoto/VIZIO)

I started seeing video reviews Vizio video after Robert Scoble’s tweet and video. Yeah – I ignored the basketball player YouTube video with the setup. Anyway, today, I watched the video by LaptopMag. OK. It’s android gingerbread but Vizio was smart enough to put their own interface called the Vizio’s Internet Apps Plus ecosystem. This ecosystem allows you to use the tablet as a television remote and connect to the Vizio home theater.

Theme Installation

Seven years ago, I pictured a website with a question/answer area focused on Tablet PCs. I chose vBulletin – which was okay – but didn’t really provide the environment desired.

A theme by templatic was installed today. This new theme provides the question/answer arrangement. Finally. It only took 8 years. ;)

Tomuse.com provides a nice description.

Templatic’s premium question and answer theme that features an quick and easy 1-click installation with the ability to auto-create sample questions to get your Q&A site up and running in no time. Questions are separately through large tabs marked as recent, most responses, unanswered, and recently answered. The header offers two menus with drop down capabilities, login and registration links, and a search bar. Users have the ability to vote answers up or down and the individual that asked the question can assign the best answer.

Apple iPad outsells competitors 93 to 1

Sometimes the obvious needs to be clarified with good data. A post found on All Things Digital, states “Of the 4.5 million “media tablets” shipped in the third quarter of 2010, a staggering 4.2 million were iPads, according to ABI Research.”

Yes, that means in 2010 Apple had 93% of the market share.

ABI Research’s “Netbooks, MIDs, Media Tablets, and Mobile CE Market Data” includes forecasts for all Ultra-mobile Devices (UMDs) including media tablets, netbooks, UMPCs, mobile Internet devices (MIDs) and mobile broadband-enabled consumer electronics (CE) devices. Shipments, ASPs, and revenue for these devices are provided, including shipments and revenues for each type of UMD by region, platform, operating system, and connectivity attach rates. It forms part of the Netbooks, MIDs and Mobile CE Research Service which also includes another Market Data product, Research Reports, Research Briefs, ABI Insights, ABI Vendor Matrices, and analyst inquiry support.

Tablet sales forecasts remain positive

NPD Group’s DisplaySearch and iSuppli predict an increase in Tablet sales for the next five years. NPD Group’s DisplaySearch predicts an increase from 19 million (2010) to 172.4 million by 2014 and iSuppli predicts 242.3 million sold in 2015.

It’s been a long time since Microsoft pushed the Tablet PC, why are so many people just now getting interested?

There are three major factors. Internet activity is much greater now than years ago. Plus, most new tablets are not linked to a Windows OS, and people are no longer hung up on the OS brand names. Finally, in contrast to the original Tablet PC owners and in terms of productivity, people rely on a connection to the Internet.

PC World provides five reasons for owning a Tablet PC. All of these were possible years ago, however,  battery life has improved over the original models.

When are you going to purchase a Tablet?

Version 8.0

The domain name tabletquestions.com was registered on September 21, 2003. The site merged with several others and all of the content, posts, and forum posts were transfered to technologyquestions.com. After operating under the same domains for several years, tabletquestions was separated out again.

This is version 8.0: one increment for each year the site was online.
